Princess Without a Castle: The Story Behind the Duet

There was a time when I would’ve done anything to be loved.
Shrink myself. Stay quiet. Swallow my intuition.
Smile when it hurt. Stay when it broke me.

That’s who Princess is about — and who she refuses to be anymore.

A Duet Born from Pain and Power

Princess” is my upcoming duet with Kael Daemon — and it might be the most personal track I’ve ever released.

It’s not a fairy tale.
It’s not a crown-and-carriage story.

It’s a reckoning.

A slow-burning, emotional anthem about what it means to finally stop begging to be chosen — and choose yourself instead.

The Story Behind the Lyrics

The song started as a journal entry I never planned to share.

Just a line: “You called me your princess. But only when no one was looking.”

I wrote it after a moment that shattered something in me. A moment where I realized I’d been someone’s secret, not someone’s treasure. Where I was adored in private, but erased in public.

That’s not love. That’s performance.

And I was done performing.

Enter: Kael Daemon

Kael was the only voice I wanted on this song.
His sound is both strong and vulnerable — just like the man I imagined Princess confronting.

He doesn’t play the villain. He plays the mirror.

His verses reflect every excuse, every delay, every manipulation wrapped in charm.

Together, our voices become the clash of fantasy and truth.
Hope and clarity.
Seduction and refusal.

What Princess Really Means

This isn’t just a song about a failed relationship.
It’s a song about identity.

So many of us are raised to think that being chosen by someone else gives us value.
That being someone’s “princess” is the highest compliment.

But here’s what I’ve learned:

👑 A title without love is a prison.
👑 A castle without respect is a cage.
👑 And if you have to shrink to wear the crown — it’s not your crown.

Princess is about reclaiming your throne.
Even if it means building it from ruins.
Even if you have to walk away barefoot.

For Anyone Who Stayed Too Long

If you’ve ever loved someone who made you feel small…
If you’ve ever been adored in private but hidden in public…
If you’ve ever traded your voice for temporary peace…

This song is for you.

You’re not weak for wanting love.
You’re not broken for hoping.
You’re just done pretending.

“Princess” releases December 27.
Pre-save it now — and take your crown back.

With fire & softness,
Mathilde
