A Song About Losing Everything

Mathilde Toft’s new single is a fierce and vulnerable anthem for anyone who’s had to start over.

“Lost and Found”: When Starting Over Isn’t the End

I never planned to write this song.
But life sometimes hands you an ending you didn’t see coming – and when it does, music becomes the only way forward. For me it was at least.

“Lost and Found” is about that moment.
When the dust hasn’t quite settled.
When you’re sleeping on a friend’s couch.
When you feel stripped bare — but somehow still standing.

The Moment That Sparked the Song

I was in a quiet room, post-breakup, with nothing but my phone, my voice, and a few painful lines scratched in my notes app:

“Ex took it all but my freedom / Stripped me down but I won’t sway…”

That became the heartbeat of this song.
Not bitterness. Not revenge.
But survival. Strength. Self-worth.

The Power of “I Ain’t Lost”

The chorus was the first thing that made me cry when I sang it out loud:

“I ain’t lost / Just in between
I ain’t broke / Just what I’ve seen”

It felt like reclaiming something that had been buried under disappointment and fear.
He took the furniture. The apartment. The plans.
But not my soul. Not the part of me that writes. That sings. That rises.

More Than Bricks and Knots

The third verse is the soul of the song for me:

“Friends’ soft whispers in the dead night
Home is more than bricks and knots”

If you’ve ever had a chosen family pick you up when you couldn’t stand, you’ll know what this means.
I wrote this to honor those people — the friends who remind you who you are when you forget.

This One’s For You

If you’ve ever had to start from scratch — emotionally, financially, or spiritually — this song is for you.
If you’ve ever stood in the wreckage of a life and said, “I’m still here,”
you’re not alone.

Thank you for listening. For healing. For rising.

With love,

Mathilde Toft
